Missouri Master Naturalist (Session 2 of 17)

Description:

Help protect the natural resources of Camden, Miller, Morgan and surrounding counties by becoming a Missouri Master Naturalist. The Missouri Master Naturalist program is a community-based, adult natural resource education and volunteer program designed to engage Missourians in the stewardship of our state's natural resources. Registration has begun for the Lake of the Ozarks Master Naturalist certification training course. An orientation session will be held January 17 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Mo. Dept of Conservation Office, Thunder Mountain Road, Camdenton, MO. Closing date for the spring training registration is January 31st and class size is limited. Training sessions will be held at the Mo. Dept of Conservation office, Thunder Mountain Road, Camdenton, MO. from 6-9 pm on Wednesdays beginning February 28th and ending May 23th. Three Saturday field trips are included. The 50-hour course will teach you about Missouri's natural resource ecology and management. After graduation, participants are asked to provide 40 hours of volunteer service on land management, citizen science, education, and other conservation related projects in the local community and participate in eight hours of advanced training opportunities. Missouri’s Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase independent living older adults’ access to a safe, structured, and effective strength training program. Stay Strong, Stay Healthy- Level 2 is a follow-up to Level 1. It is for those who want to challenge themselves a bit more! Over eight weeks, participants learn exercises to improve strength, flexibility and balance. At each session, a prescribed set of eight to 10 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. In order to enroll in the Stay Strong, Stay Healthy–Level 2 program, you must have completed the Stay Strong, Stay Healthy-Level 1 program at least twice. Private Pesticide Applicator Training (Dent County)

Missouri law requires all purchasers and users of restricted-use pesticides to attend a training session to be certified for a private applicators license. During this training, participants will learn about safe handling of pesticides, proper mixing, calibration techniques, environmental ramifications of improper mixing or careless application, chemical breakdown of pesticides in the environment, what records are needed, pesticide formulations, personal protective wear and how to clean it, pesticide storage, common MO pests, and integrated pest management (IPM).

Each year, with the help of our local Master Gardeners (Hickory County) and FFA Chapters (Wheatland, Hermitage, Mack Creek, Weableau, and Skyline), we go into the elementary schools and offer an opportunity for hands on learning as each 1st grader plants a variety of gardening seeds to be grown in the spring. The local FFA chapter care for the seeds for about 4-5 weeks and then we send them home with the students to plant in their own gardens. Hopefully they will get to eat what they have planted. We also send home information about container grown gardening in the hope the parents can put together something the students can use so they can care for the plants.

Description: Taking Care of You  is a multi-session program offering practical strategies and experiences to help you deal with the stress in your life. Managing life’s challenges in a healthy way allows you to take better care of yourself and your overall health.  Each week you will explore topics through small group discussion, self-reflection and activities. You will consider ways to:   Take better care of all aspects of your health — body, mind and spirit    Become more aware of the mind-body connection and how to use this awareness for better health    Respond versus react to the stress in your life    Discover opportunities in life’s challenges    Develop habits that can lead to a healthier you    Find ways to bring more joy into your life    Simplify your life    Live more in the moment

Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase independent living older adults access to a safe, structured, and effective strength-training program. Over eight weeks, participants learn exercises to improve strength, flexibility and balance. At each class, a prescribed set of eight upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

Session topic:

Participants will complete a warm-up, 8 strength training exercises, and a cool-down that includes stretching.

Missouri Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase independent living older adults access to a safe, structured, and effective strength training program.Stay Strong, Stay Healthy- Level 2 is a follow-up to Level 1. It is for those who want to challenge themselves a bit more! During the eight weeks, participants learn exercises to improve strength, flexibility and balance. In order to enroll in the Stay Strong, Stay Healthy Level 2 program, you must have completed the Stay Strong, Stay Healthy-Level 1 program at least twice.
