Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - Level 1 at McCarty Senior Center, second session (Session 3 of 18)

This MU Extension strength-training program can get your fitness journey (re)started. Participants will be guided safely by a trained instructor through warm up, muscle-strengthening exercises and cool down. Equipment is provided. The class is targeted toward older and middle-aged adults. There are no age limits. Participants should feel comfortable moving up and down from the floor.

Food Preservation- Union (Session 5 of 5)

Food Preservation Series of Classes

June 13 -- Pressure Canning.  Prepare Green Beans in a Pressure Canner.  Every thing you need to know about safely canning low acid foods.

June 20 -- Freezing Fruits and Vegetables and Prepared Food . Topics include freezer storage times, blanching times, packaging, and methods.

June 27 -- Jams and Jellies Prepare traditional jam and jelly as well as freezer jam.

July 11 -- Salsa - Prepare tomato-pepper salsa. Learn to canning acid foods in a water bath or steam canner.

July 18 -- Pickles and Relish Prepare quick pack pickles in class and problem-solve causes of less than perfect fermented and quick pack pickles

Each workshop will vary, but content will focus on one or more of these topics:

 - Preservation method to use for highest quality and safety in home preserved foods.

- Solutions to common canning problems.

Hands-on experience with new recipes and sources of the latest research – each workshop

will feature different processes and use different produce (chosen by availability).

Classes will be held at Memorial Auditorium, Classroom 3, Lower Level,500 E. Locust Street • Union, MO 63084  on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 9 pm.
