Meet the vice chancellor

Marshall Stewart has served as vice chancellor for extension and engagement at the University of Missouri since August 2016, overseeing an $82 million budget with 650 faculty and staff. He provides leadership for MU Extension and continuing education programs, as well as university-wide engagement. He also serves serve as chief engagement officer for the UM System, working with university leaders at all four campuses to develop a systemwide plan for engagement and outreach.

During his 30-year career in agricultural education and extension services, Stewart has served in many roles as educator and leader. He strongly believes in the university’s land-grant mission and its obligation to translate discoveries from the university into ways to improve the lives of all citizens of Missouri and beyond.

Prior to coming to Mizzou, Stewart served as special assistant to the dean and was director of College of Leadership and Strategy in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University. In this role, Stewart focused on the development of new and innovative leadership development programs. As strategy officer for the college, he developed strategic partnerships and strengthened external relations with policy-makers. While at NCSU, he also served as director of the Food Systems Leadership Institute at the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, leading educational efforts for food and agricultural systems leaders in higher education and industry in the U.S. and around the world.

Previously, Stewart served as associate director of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service and department head and program leader of the State 4-H and Family and Consumer Sciences Program at NCSU.

Before coming to NCSU, Stewart worked in secondary education roles that included leadership with Future Farmers of America. Stewart led successful membership drives with the state FFA organization and later led teacher professional development efforts at the national FFA level.

Stewart holds a bachelor of science degree in agricultural education, a master of science degree in agricultural sciences and a doctorate of education in agricultural and extension education from NCSU.

Administrative leadership meetings

Vice Chancellor Stewart holds an administrative leadership meeting each month. These meetings help RD, PD, CED and vice chancellor team members keep informed on a range of issues related to extension and engagement. Recordings of the meetings are available in the video frame below.

Easy Access series

The Easy Access series has been created to provide MU Extension faculty and staff with easy interactive access to Vice Chancellor Marshall Stewart. This ongoing series will provide frequent opportunities to connect with the vice chancellor through Zoom or other suitable streaming technologies. Easy Access invitations for live participation will be send through email. Recordings will be posted in the video frame below and will be noted in The Exchange newsletter.
