This training manual and video provide the basic resources needed to begin a practical, research-based mentoring program for pregnant and parenting teens. Based on three years of field testing and evaluation at the University of Missouri, this program has been shown to reduce child abuse, prevent repeat pregnancies and reduce parenting stress.
The manual contains sections for both project administrators and volunteer mentors on how to plan, implement and evaluate a volunteer resource mothers program. It includes field-tested administrative forms and lists practical tips to ensure success.
The 12 minute video shows potential funders and participants how the Missouri Volunteer Resource Mothers project was implemented and field tested at MU. Former participants and mentors discuss the impact that the project had on their lives.
In addition to this manual and video, the results of the three-year evaluation of the initial project are compiled in MU Publication MX912, Missouri Volunteer Resource Mothers Research Report.
The Missouri Volunteer Resource Mothers staff travels nationally to provide the necessary assistance needed to begin programs and certify instructors. Please call 573-882-3243 to visit with one of the staff members about beginning a program.
